Lorraine was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells in the bone marrow, days after giving birth to Katerina (far left). Her spine badly damaged from the cancer, Lorraine was in constant pain, but she did not give up. Barely able to walk, she started Team Lorraine to raise money to find a cure for Multiple Myeloma.
Multiple Myeloma is the 2nd most common blood cancer after Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Each year, 2100 Canadians are newly diagnosed with this treatable, but incurable, disease. The M-Moving Together Toward The Cure 5K Team raises funds in support of a cure.
Thanks to an experimental treatment at Princess Margaret Hospital, a stem cell transplant, radiation and chemotherapy, Lorraine’s cancer was forced into remission for many years. But Lorraine’s cancer returned and her remission has ended. Her doctor at Princess Margaret is closely monitoring Lorraine and will begin treatment when the disease reaches a certain threshold.
Lorraine is a determined fighter, but she needs all of our help. She is preparing for her next battle with Multiple Myeloma and we need to find a cure. Fast! We need to accelerate the search for a cure, not just for Lorraine, her husband and their three girls, but for all the other people living with the incurable Multiple Myeloma.
Please support our team and let’s help find a cure for Multiple Myeloma.
Lorraine is living proof that the advances in research and treatment are having a positive impact on improving and extending the lives of those living with Multiple Myeloma.
On Sunday June 18, Team Lorraine is participating in our ninth 5K Walk to Conquer Cancer to raise funds for The Princess Margaret, one of the top 5 comprehensive cancer research hospitals in the world. New discoveries and innovative cancer therapies that are changing cancer care for patients globally are happening right here in Canada, at The Princess Margaret.
